// inspira(shown), News, Portrait

i’ve been seeing for some time now that there is much much more going on here than just photos. it’s the story and the people that I get to share and i just feel so blessed to be able to have an outlet to do so. i’ve also been praying and thinking specifically about ways that i can be challenged and used to be able to give to others. you know, the over-used, yet spot on, “give-back” concept that is often talked about, no matter the field or your vocation - we are all called to do so, no matter where your abilities lie.  well, an idea has been on my heart and i know its time to do it.

there’s this beautiful storytelling collaboration i’ve been in love with for some time now. in shooting and writing and sharing it here. for some reason, there is a feeling with that end result and i have been so blessed to be a part of it. i also have been made aware of how much someone can be blessed through this process. i have said before and will say again, i really truly don’t want this to ever become about me. i want to remain a tool and have this be an outlet for sharing about real people, their love, their stories. i absolutely love the people that come to me to share and capture their story – BUT i want to take it one step further. so, here’s the idea:

I’m going to be starting a monthly project called “inspira(shown)” where i get to meet, hear, listen, and shoot with someone with an inspiring story and then share it here. you see, there are thousands of little eyes that read this blog every month and i just know that within that network there are people that know of someone who fits what I’m doing.  a story that needs to be told. a story and person that needs to be honored. a spirit that must be captured. so if i can somehow be involved and give a bit of my time in order to tell that story, give them a gift that really costs me nothing but time, i’ll do it and i feel called and moved to do so and i’m literally so so so excited for this to take place.

a little bit ago, because of the thoughtfulness of a girl (who happens to now be a bride-to-be, & one i’m meeting with today) I was able to be a part of a surprise shoot and gift to someone that moved her, and it was awesome. for everyone involved, and it put a seed in my heart and gave me thirst to do more things like that. so what would this person look like? really, it can be anyone, anywhere, anything. it doesn’t necessarily even have to be in Seattle. trust me, more amazing things have happened than travel.

it could be (but not limited to):

a family that lost a child. {let’s shoot photos to celebrate their family}

a girl that’s been training for months to conquer her first marathon. {let’s get out on a trail and shoot}

a mama who just had a baby and her husband is in the military over-seas {let’s send some photos to that new papa}

a couple who just model dedication and love, maybe just celebrated a 50th anniversary. {let’s document their love}

a boy who spends his days at st. jude because of cancer {let’s capture his spirit and boyish behavior}

a husband and wife who have tried for years to have a baby and now are upon the due date {let’s capture those little baby feet}

a student who is a leader and sticks to the narrow path {let’s document their dedication and accomplishments}

a girlie who’s been waiting for 1 yr to see her husband return from Iraq. {let’s go to the airport together}

a person who started an organization to help and give to others {lets show what you do}

it can be a story of acheievement or of patience. one that moves others. inspires. and honors someone that you respect and admire. it is someone you look at and just know that others will be blessed and encouraged by hearing their story.

i want their to be variety and for you to know there basically aren’t any rules surrounding this. please don’t think the story you have is not good enough. if someone has inspired you or moved you or you just know someone who has demonstrated an immovable spirit and strength…please, let me know. this will be a *free* session at no cost to anyone, it’s not and never about money. they could very well be quite wealthy (or not at all) and be able to afford a portrait session, it’s about honoring them and sharing an inspiring story with others. joys and strength are to be shared and i can’t wait to see the people I get to tell you about.

that’s pretty much the whole deal. I really am confident that those out there reading this know of someone who deserves to be honored. it will take some effort on your part and I’d actually love for you to share this little post with someone who you know and see if they know anyone that fits.

here are the guidelines.

1) You must nominate them. (and not tell them you did so)

2) Send me their story and why they inspire you and others in one page or less (attached word document)

3) Include their contact info: email and phone.

4) Nominations can be sent in until the last monday of each month and then I will notify you and them by the last Friday.

5) All the information should be sent to with “Inspira(shown)” in the headline.

THAT’S IT. I cannot cannot wait for this and thank you in advance for sending in the stories and people in your life that inspire you. I CANT wait to hear these and share them here! If you have any questions, feel free to email me or comment below. Inspria(shown) starts NOW – so send nominations my way. If I get a rush of emails by wednesday, I’ll announce someone friday.

I’d also LOVE to hear your thoughts… down and excited for what comes out of this? there will also be a tab in “about” menu above here soon, explaining it all so you won’t have to refer to this post for future reference.
